Addictions and the Family

ednesday, July 21, 2010, at 5pm in the Juvenile Justice Center Atrium

 

On Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at 5:00 PM in the Juvenile Justice Center Atrium, the CASA office will be providing an in-service training for all CASA volunteers.   

 

Kathy Wenger and Michelle Olson of Family and Children’s Center Counseling and Development Services will be presenting information on Addictions and the Family.

 

Kathy Wenger, LMHC, ICACII, CADACIV, ICADC, completed her graduate program at Bethel College in 2001, with a Master of Arts in Counseling, majoring in mental health counseling. She completed her undergraduate degree at Indiana Wesleyan in 1996 with a major in addiction counseling. She has 11 years experience working in addictions and mental health, in both inpatient and outpatient modalities. She has experience in medical and social detoxification, working with the dual diagnosis populations, and has two years of supervisory experience.

Michelle Olson, MS, MSW, joined the agency in 2008. She earned her first Master's, a Master's of Science in Social Psychology from the University of Surrey in Guildford England in 2002. In 2008, she earned her Master's of Social Work from Indiana University. Prior to coming to Counseling and Development Services, she was an investigator for the Department of Child Services in St. Joseph County where she primarily worked with families of addiction. Michelle has experience in addiction and mental health on an outpatient modality. Michelle created the curriculum and runs trauma groups for children of: neglect, addicted parents, and domestic violent homes. Michelle also works with children of trauma and bullying on an individual basis. Currently, she is obtaining her CADACII.

The CASA office plans on providing a meal for this training event therefore anyone interested must RSVP by Friday, July 16, 2010, at 4pm by calling the CASA office at (574) 232-CASA or e-mailing Stephanie at casa@jjconline.org

Remember – all volunteers must complete 12 hours per year of continuing education.  This training will count as two hours toward the required 12 hours. 


Family & Children's Center 2010 Evidence-Based Practices Seminar Series

The Family & Children's Center Seminar Series provides several free trainings throughout the year with their sister affiliate The Children's Campus. This free training provides lunch and will apply toward your 12 continuing education hours required each year. Also, if applicable you will receive (3) Continuing Education Credits from Family & Children's Center toward your licensure.

Registration for seminars can be made online and will open five weeks prior to the seminar date.  Go to http://fcccds.org/Training.aspx to learn more information and to sign up.


Starting Small

This is a group of parents of children with disabilities who meet on a regular basis to provide support, network and learn.  They generally meet on the 3rd Wednesday of every month from 7-8:30pm.  Meeting locations change monthly, so contact Kris Kern at (574) 254-7764 or e-mail at kernk@mishawaka.k12.in.us with any questions.
